Exploring Outer Space

This month our whole school is learning about air and space. We learned about our atmosphere and what kinds of things are in each layer. From hot air balloons and birds to rockets and satellites to planets. We learned about each layer and as we got closer and closer to the 'exosphere' or outer space, we got darker and darker. This week we've blocked out the windows and turned off the lights. Students have been experimenting with glow sticks, lamps, shadows, flashlights and glowing water in our sensory table. We have begun to learn about each of the planets and next week will be making our own solar system.

This glowing water is created by simply breaking open a yellow highlighter and rinsing out the ink pad in the water. By using a black light, you can make the water glow.

See all of our pictures here.

With all of the exciting new changes with the museum this year, our class has been challenged to create a scale model of a hot air balloon, similar to what we did in our class two months ago. Our hot air balloon will be 12-feet tall and created by the students. We are hoping to have it finished by the end of the summer! If you have any ideas for us, pleas leave a comment!
