Our Field Trip to Winterberry Gardens!

Today we had a field trip to Winterberry Gardens!  We talked about bus safety and field trip rules before boarding the bus to the garden!

When we got there, we were able to explore all of the flowers they were growing.

We also got to see some cool trees, including a banana tree!

We had a lot of fun exploring!  Thanks Winterberry Gardens!

Happy Birthday Imagine Nation!

Last Friday was Imagine Nation’s 11th Birthday!

On Thursday, we were given ingredients to make carrot cake cupcakes from scratch.
We were able to see, smell and touch the ingredients before we added them to the mixture and everyone had a turn to add something to the mix and we took turns stirring.

The cupcake mix was taken to the kitchen to be made into cupcakes!

Today we were able to decorate birthday hats with glue, paper, fabric and pom poms!  We looked ready to party!

Then we got to go to our new Learning Lab and decorate the cupcakes we had made from the day before.

We got to eat them for afternoon snack!  We had so much fun at the birthday party!

Shapes, Self-Portraits, and Sunflowers, Oh My!

We had a very busy week in Classroom 5A!  We are all enjoying learning the rules of the classroom and exploring new centers.

At art center we used loose parts, yarn and mirrors to create our very own self-portraits.  We used the mirrors to find which color paper matched our skin tone, which color gems or buttons matched our eyes, nose and mouth, and which color yarn matched our hair.  We had a lot of fun creating using the different loose parts.

At science center we observed the sunflower that the Studio Educators provided for us for our classroom.  We used magnify glasses to look at the flower closer and even drew some of our observations!

At math center we explored with Tangrams.  We found the shapes to fill in pictures to make things like frogs and fish!

At block center we drove cars and built with arches.  We made the arches into tunnels and hills.

At dramatic play we played house and explored all of the food, dishes and babies we have in this center.

And we can't wait to begin next week!

Our First Day!

We had an eventful first day at preschool!  We took a tour of our classroom to learn about all of our exciting centers.  And then we got to play!

Then we got to play outside!

When we came back inside we took a picture walk through Where the Wild Things Are and practiced warming up our singing voices to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed."

We had a lot of fun and are looking forward to an exciting year!

It was a Fancy Last Day!

Today our day was all about Fancy Nancy.  We got to read the book twice, learn fancy words and play dress up.

Ms. Perkowski brought in some accessories from home and we used some accessories from dramatic play to make our ordinary outfits super fancy.

Then we got to go upstairs to have a fancy tea party with iced tea, cucumber sandwiches and shortbread cookies.

Our day was stupendous, which is a fancy word for great, and our outfits were posh, which is a fancy word for fancy!  To see all of the photos from our day, click here.

Summer Fun Day

Today we had our summer fun day outside in the parking lot!

We started by building with the blue blocks and balancing on the boards and the stilt walkers.
Then we went through an obstacle course that involved climbing through hula hoops, balancing on blocks, jumping over hurdles and crawling through a tunnel.

Lastly we got to spend time jumping in a bounce house and going through an obstacle course inside.

A big thank you to the office staff for putting the event together!

Meet the Author

Today we had a very special treat, we were able to meet the author of a fantastic book series called Commander Josh

Author Donna LeBlanc came to our school to read to the students and do some imagination activities because that's what  her books are all about; exploring the imagination of kids! We were even fortunate enough that Miss Donna gave each classroom a signed copy of her book Commander Josh In Space and each student was able to take home a Commander Josh bookmark.

Miss Donna, seen below with our Thank You card, didn't think we would know who she was and was very surprised when Henrik told her she was the author and the title of the book was Commander Josh. We've got some smart kids in this class!

Miss Donna did a rhyming activity with the students, something she also does within her books. "Today I see, through the leaves of the tree, a tiny little bumble bee, coming to... my house!" The kids quickly told her that didn't rhyme and we all figured out the ending, coming to see me.

We had fun using our imagination to build a snowman with Miss Donna and catch snow on our tongues.

A BIG thank you to Donna LeBlanc for taking the time to come see us and giving us a great book to read!
